Biography

I am a Professor in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary and have served as a Family Therapist and Clinical Supervisor at the Calgary Family Therapy Centre for the past 13 years. In my professional therapy and academic careers I have focused on the intersections of research, theory, and practice. In particular I have taught and written about qualitative inquiry, social constructionism, and family therapy. I have served for many years as a co-editor for The Qualitative Report and as a Board Member for the Taos Institute and the Global Partnership for Transformational Social Work. My primary focus in recent years has been taking a close look at the “social” in social work. Social work has always challenged the dominant discourses that divide and marginalize people in so many ways and we must be vigilant to keep that mission front and center.
